An extremely rare, pretty pair of plates (could be considered shallow dishes), decorated with black and white floral transfer ware.
Produced by The Ceramic Art Company Ltd, Hanley, Staffordshire, who were only in business in Hanley from 1892 - 1903, hence why items from this company are rare to come by.
The company produced ceramics during the aesthetic movement, during the late 19th century, that championed pure beauty and ‘art for arts sake’ emphasising the visual qualities of art and design over practical, moral or narrative considerations.
These lovely plates are in great condition, given that they are well over 100 years old! No cracks, or major chips to either - just a few small nibbles on the underside of the rim, and crazing to the glaze.
Each plate measures 27cm in diameter and the rim stands 4cm high.
